Catholics’ Top Priorities (Poll)

from Talking Points Memo – The majority of American Catholics favor President Barack Obama, according to a poll released last week from Belden Russonello Strategists and commissioned by Catholics for Choice, a pro-choice organization. Forty-six of the 1,000 Catholic likely voters surveyed said they would vote for Obama next month, with 41 percent opting for Gov. Romney and 12 percent remaining undecided. The poll had a margin of error of 3.1 percent.

Meanwhile, despite the church’s outspoken views on both abortion and gay marriage, a stark majority of those polled believe the two issues should not be the top priority for the White House. Seventy-nine percent believe jobs should be the president’s highest priority, with a far smaller segment believing the president should focus on abortion (28 percent) and gay marriage (16 percent).
