Healthcare is one of the hot button issues in the governors race. Currently healthcare costs take up an overwhelming portion of the states budget (approximately 42%). All of the candidates agree that there’s a great potential for savings in this area, but they don’t all agree on what changes need to made in order to improve both the quality and cost efficiency of the system.

Martha Coakley supports using the current system as a foundation for a new and improved system.  Steve Grossman has been leaning the same way, but he is open to considering single payer and will create a commission to determine its viability.   If elected, Don Berwick intends to transition our current healthcare system  to a single payer system.
